JapShow 2018 Report
Showcasing power, performance and perfection from the Pairing Lanes to the Show Paddock, Club Displays to the Handling Track, Japan’s fastest and finest were out in abundance as we enjoyed a great day paying homage to these legendary icons.
Putting those driving skills of speed and precision to the ultimate test, the first trophy of the day went to Lachlan Stropin in the Handling Track Competition; in a Yellow Mazda MX5, he completed the circuit in an impressive 23.44 seconds - well done!
The Show Paddock hosted the Autoglym Show & Shine competition. With a vibrant and varied congregation of immaculate Japanese machinery, it was a very tough decision process for the judges with some very high-spec vehicles on display. However, Chris Presley from Japanese Performance Magazine was on hand to help with the decisions and after many turns around the paddock, I’m sure you’ll agree, the winners were as follows:
The ¼ mile played host to some fierce and hard-fought competition with Round 3 of the FWD Drag Series, Japanese Drag Series and the RWYB competition, seeing some very impressive runs on the dragstrip.
In true Jap style, the winner of Round 3’s FWD Drag Series of course had to be a Honda Civic - Well done to Kiel Priestman! Number one qualifier, Kiel, met number two qualifier Phil Reeves in the final with Kiel taking the win with 9.32 at 138mph. Kiel’s Japanese beast qualified with an outstanding 8.95 seconds! Kiel Priestman and Phil Reeves now sit first and second on the 2018 Championship Points Table with only 110 points between them. It will be all to play for in Round 4 at Ultimate Street Car – stay tuned!
It was a Skyline up against a 200SX in Round 3’s final; Jeff Ludgate’s ‘Sherbet Lemon’ took the win with a 10.37 at 109.87mph giving second place to Peter Bailey’s 12.90 at 115.05mph. Well done Jeff!
The RWYB competition saw some cutthroat competition throughout the classes; we witnessed a dynamic array of Jap cars hit the track with some very impressive ET’s. The results of the RWYB competition were as follows:
Over on the Live Stage, car show legend, DJ Richie Don, provided us with the perfect soundtrack for JapShow, keeping us entertained over in the Show Paddock all day long. We witnessed one hell of a show over in Live Action as the arena played host to a stunt masterclass in the form of Terry Grant and Lee Bowers, whilst over in the Drift Arena we got our fix of sideways, rubber burning action with a drift ride or two!
We hope you all had your cameras at the ready - tearing down the strip in 5.16 seconds at a mind-blowing 308mph, Martin Hill’s weapon of choice for the day was FireForce 5, The Jet Dragster!
As one of the biggest Japanese car club displays in the UK, we would like to say a big thank you to all the clubs for their continued support each year - we marveled at the pristine machinery on display – see you soon!
We would like to thank everyone who attended JapShow 2018 and from all the Santa Pod team, we hope you had a great day! See you at JapShow Finale! www.japshowfinale.com
